Project Prerona

Having her first menstrual period is special for every girl because that indicates the transition from a girl to a woman. From the very beginning of the menstrual period, hygiene and a healthy environment to process this phase is a must. On average, a woman will menstruate for 3,000 days in their lifetime. In Bangladesh, 46.8% of the population is female and, around 39 million women are in the 15-49 age group which makes them susceptible to challenges related to their social, personal, gender inequality. People from solvent families prefer sanitary pads though still a lot of women use clothes during their menstrual period because these pads are often too expensive for them to consume. Keeping all these in mind, Ignite Global Foundation has taken up ‘this’ project so they can regulate menstrual health and hygiene for the underprivileged women group of Bangladesh who is currently living in the slums of Bangladesh. As for the slums of BD, they are very densely populated, dirty, and unhygienic and don’t have much space for a woman to maintain proper hygiene the woman. Hence Ignite Global Foundation as a small cluster of society is trying its best to facilitate menstrual hygiene provision for underprivileged women of Bangladesh.

Objectives

  • To eliminate all probable diseases that these people are susceptible to because of unhygienic menstrual health.
  • To increase access to and use of high-quality reusable eco-friendly sanitary napkins to adolescent girls in rural and slum areas.
  • To increase awareness among adolescent girls on Menstrual Hygiene.

Impact

Project Prerona aims to significantly impact the indicators for related SDGs. Living the life of an RMG worker or housemaid is not an easy job for women. If little help during those 7 days of the month can bring comfort for them and also ensures safety from future big diseases then that sort of impact is expected from this project. Through this project, IGF provided almost 750 packets of reusable sanitary napkins to 750 marginalized working women and adolescent girls at Baunia, Uttara.

School Going Girls

Provide sanitary pads to the less privileged adolescent girls.

Working Women

Provide sanitary napkin to the garments worker and day laborer women.

Parents

Provide sanitary pads to the parents those who are under poverty line.
